Relation between Mean, Median

for some reason, i am feeling geeky (but not very). was trying to use empirical data to support but i don't have enough data on hand. of course, will gladly appreciate if anyone can pass me what ever data they have. I want to think that is some form of relationship between mean and median. Let talk the traditional exam system as a gauge... the number can vary freely within 0-100. If the mean is less than 50, chances are median is below. Conversely, if the mean is more than 50, median is even higher. HOWEVER, just before you go about to conclude that the relationship is linear, i am gonna up my hypothesis with a more stunning prediction. i feel that the relationship is sinusoidal, with the amptitude at 25, 75 and x intercept at 50. i do not have mathematical prove, nor do i have empirical data. but of course, i will like to see the empirical data and maybe perform a chi square test to see if it works... anyone wants to render help?
